Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd organised its sixth reforestation project in conjunction with the company’s third anniversary celebration for the commissioning of Hengyi Industries’ petrochemical and refinery plant.

Over 90 Hengyi Industries’ management and staff, as well as volunteers from various government and non-government agencies, participated in the event that saw 500 tree saplings being planted across 0.5 hectares of land at Biodiversity Park, Berakas Forest Reserve.

Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin attended as the guest of honour. The guest of honour also received a token of appreciation as well as attended a group photo session and a briefing on the importance of reforestation.

Chinese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong also attended the event.

Hengyi Industries Chief Executive Officer Chen Lian Cai officiated the event that saw the guest of honour plant a cassia fistula.

Other saplings planted included meranti putih timbul, meranti laru, selangan daun tebal, kapur peringgi, casorina nobilis and meranti merah kesumbah, which are native to the forest reserve, thus more resilient in the forest reserve’s drier environment and sandy soil.

Hengyi Industries’ reforestation project was established in May 2019 as part of its corporate social responsibility activities under the Hengyi One Planet Initiative to protect and preserve the natural environment. As of yesterday, 3,510 tree saplings had been planted across 3.5 hectares of land.

Berakas Forest Reserve was chosen as it has been hit by fires, making it a good candidate for the rehabilitation and restoration project.
