BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd, a petrochemical joint venture between China and Brunei, awarded scholarships to 18 students from the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) during a scholarship signing ceremony on Wednesday.
Chen Liancai, CEO of Hengyi Industries, said this is the second batch of students to receive the scholarship under the Joint Refinery Operator Scholarship Program established by Hengyi with IBTE and China's Lanzhou Petrochemical Polytechnic College (LPP), bringing the total of awarded scholarship under this program to 48 students.
"As part of the program, the 18 scholarship students have completed their one-year studies at IBTE, and are currently undergoing their institutional-based training online with the professors from LPP. The scholars will then complete their final year of the program through an on-the-job-training with Hengyi," Chen said in a speech.
"On completion of the three-year program, the scholars will be offered full-time employment opportunities with Hengyi Industries as refinery operators," he added.
Hengyi Industries is a joint venture between China's Zhejiang Hengyi Group and Damai Holdings, a wholly-owned subsidiary under the Brunei government's Strategic Development Capital Fund, owning 70 percent and 30 percent of the shares respectively.
Haji Azman, Brunei's Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education, Awang Junaidi, Managing Director of Strategic Development Capital Fund as a representative of Damai Holdings Limited, the shareholder of Hengyi Industries on behalf of the Brunei government and Yu Hong, Chinese ambassador to Brunei attended the scholarship signing ceremony.
