BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between China and Brunei, fulfilled part of their corporate social responsibilities by providing donations to orphans and the underprivileged on Monday.

The oil refinery and petrochemical plant handed out monetary and food contributions to 19 underprivileged and 35 orphans.

Hengyi Industries Chief Executive Officer Chen Lian Cai presented the donations to the recipients at the Maritime Port Authority Brunei Darussalam headquarters.

Deputy Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry Hj Matsatejo Sokiaw attended the event as the guest of honor.

Apart from helping those in need, Hengyi Industries is also committed to protecting and preserving Brunei's flora and fauna.

Earlier this month, Chen revealed that they have pledged to carry out tree planting efforts across a total land area of 200 hectares in the near future as one of its initiatives to protect Brunei's environment.

Hengyi Industries is a joint venture between China's Zhejiang Hengyi Group and Damai Holdings, a subsidiary under Brunei government's Strategic Development Capital Fund, owning 70 percent and 30 percent respectively.

The 3.4 billion-U.S. dollar refinery is expected to begin operations by the end of this year and is projected to contribute 1.33 billion U.S. dollars to Brunei's GDP in the first year.
