Ambassador of The People’s Republic of China visit Hengyi’s Refinery Site at PMB

Hengyi Industries, Empire Golf & Country Club. 11 March 2015.  The Ambassador of The People’s Republic of China, H.E. Ms Yang Jian and a delegation of embassy officials yesterday visited Hengyi’s Oil Refinery & Aromatics Cracker Plant site at Pulau Muara Besar.

A partnership between Damai Holdings Limited and Hengyi, the project will muster in huge investments to a tune of approximately USD4 billion, and will support around 800 jobs with spin-off opportunities in employment and businesses.  The project site will occupy an area of approximately 260 hectares on PMB.  Currently the main focuses are dredging, backfilling and reclamation activities in and around the island in preparation for the construction.  Once complete, the refinery is expected to produce eight million tons of products per year including Aromatics, Gasoline & Diesel, providing enough fuel requirements to meet local demand.

H.E. Ms Yang Jian said “This landmark project signifies the close relationship between The People’s Republic of China and Brunei Darussalam. I would like to express my appreciation to the Brunei government, general public and private agencies for their strong support towards the project. I look forward to its full operation, which will help boost local economy and promote a win-win cooperation between our two nations.” On hand to receive the delegation were Mr Shen Xiao Fei, Executive Director of the Integrated Project Management Team for Hengyi PMB Project.  Also present during the visit were senior officials from the China Embassy and Hengyi’s senior management. The entourage was taken on a site tour of the island and briefed on the progress of the project by Hengyi’s senior officials.  

Mr Shen in his welcoming remarks said “On behalf of Hengyi, we are delighted to welcome the Ambassador to Hengyi’s PMB site today; specifically, we would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to H.E. for taking her valuable time out to visit Hengyi’s development site. Hengyi is in the process of carrying out dredging and reclamation activities in preparation for the construction phase; once this is completed with all the necessary approvals obtained and commercial terms agreed, we can commence the construction activities immediately”

The site visit concluded with a group photograph of the delegation with Hengyi’s senior management team on the island.
