Hengyi Industries 2nd Reforestation

On 14th November 2019, Hengyi Industries conducted its 2nd tree planting efforts as one of the company’s commitments to protect Brunei’s environment towards a sustainable future. A total of 1,000 tree saplings were planted across a total of 1 hectare of land area at the Berakas Forest Reserve.

Hengyi Industries launched the reforestation project on 1st May 2019 at Berakas Forest Reserve with an uncompromising pledge to plant a total of two hundred (200) hectares as part of the joint efforts to support Brunei Darussalam's commitments under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) through the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation Programme (REDD+).

1,000 tree saplings which included 5 different types of local tree sapling species namely; Kapur Paji, Kapur Bukit, Selangan Batu Daun Tebal, Meranti Merah Kesumba and Tulong were successfully planted.

The species of the tree saplings that were planted during the event are known to be a native to the Berakas Forest Reserve which were extinct due to forest fire. These trees provide various benefits such as to minimise soil erosion occurrence and for educational purposes on Dipterocarp species.

A total of 60 attendees participated in Hengyi Industries’ 2nd Reforestation Project. We would like to take this opportunity to thank representatives and various officials from the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry; Damai Holdings Limited and the Forestry Department; and volunteers from Green Brunei and Rotary Club as well as Hengyi Industries staff for making this event a success.
