Hengyi Industries Awards 23 Scholarships to UBD Students

The Empire Brunei, 18th August 2020 – Hengyi Industries Sendirian Berhad awarded scholarships to 23 students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) during a Scholarship Signing Ceremony that was held at The Empire Brunei. The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Acting Minister of Energy.

Also in attendance were Yang Mulia Datin Dr. Dayang Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, Vice Chancellor of UBD, Her Excellency Madam Yu Hong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam, and Yang Mulia Awang Junaidi bin Haji Masri, Managing Director of Strategic Development Capital Fund as a representative of Damai Holdings Limited, the shareholder of Hengyi Industries Sendirian Berhad on behalf of the Government of Brunei Darussalam.

This marks the seventh batch of students to receive the scholarship under the Joint Chemical and Process Engineering Scholarship Programme established by Hengyi Industries with UBD and Zhejiang University bringing the total of awarded scholarship to 103. Since the inception of the scholarship programme, 57 students have completed their studies and joined Hengyi Industries’ pool of professional workforce. The scholarship programme is expected to produce 11 more graduates to be employed by September 2020.

Signing on behalf of Hengyi Industries was Mr. Chen Lian Cai, the Chief Executive Officer of Hengyi Industries while the students signed their respective agreements with their parents witnessing as guarantors.

As a part of the joint Scholarship Programme, the students will continue their studies and industrial training at Zhejiang University for a period of one and a half years. During the programme, the scholars will have a chance to gain valuable first-hand experience working in a real-life operational production plant during the six months internship at Hengyi Industries’ petrochemical sites in China. Upon completion of the programme, the 23 scholars will be offered employment opportunities at Hengyi Industries Sendirian Berhad.
