Hengyi Industries Holds Open Day with Local Institutions

Dewan Mahligai, The Airport Mall (25 March 2021) – Hengyi Industries (Hengyi), in collaboration with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Politeknik Brunei (PB), and Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), organised an open day for members of the public on 25th and 26th March 2021. The objective of the two-day event is to introduce and promote the joint scholarships and collaborative programmes between Hengyi Industries and the local institutions as a pathway for the local youths to further their education and skills.

Present during the opening ceremony to officiate the Open Day was Mr. Alan Goh, Human Resources Director of Hengyi Industries; Pengiran Dr Mohammad Iskandar bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Assistant Vice Chancellor (Academics Affairs) of UBD; Dr. Tang Shi Siong, Head of School of Science & Engineering and Principal of PB; and Hajah Mariah binti Haji Abd. Manaf, Acting Director of IBTE.

During the Open Day, the public could interact with the education institutions and Hengyi to learn more about the scholarships and joint programmes offered, the entry requirement, as well as the potential career paths available to the students upon completion of their studies in the programme.

As part of Hengyi’s commitment to achieve the goal of the Bruneianistion directive as well as Wawasan Brunei 2035’s goal of creating more educated, highly skilled, and accomplished people, Hengyi collaborated with the local institutions to establish joint scholarships and collaborative programmes.

In collaboration with UBD and Zhejiang University, Hengyi launched the Bachelor of Chemical & Process Engineering Joint Scholarship Programme in 2014. In the programme, students will undergo 4 years of education which includes two and a half years (2.5 years) at UBD, 1 year at Zhejiang University, and half year of industrial training in China. As of today, 103 students have been awarded with the scholarship.

Hengyi also collaborated with IBTE and Lanzhou Petrochemical Polytechnic (LPP) and launched two (2) joint scholarship programmes. The first programme, Diploma in Refinery Operator (Hengyi), was launched in 2018 and a total of 100 students have been awarded with the scholarship. The second programme, Diploma in Control and Automation Engineering (Hengyi), will begin on July 2021 for the first intake. Both programmes are a 3-year programme in which students will undergo 2 years of institutional based training and 1 year of on-the-job training with Hengyi at Pulau Muara Besar (PMB).

Hengyi have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with PB to run seven (7) Level 5 Diploma Programmes in collaboration with LPP. Two (2) joint programmes have already commenced, namely Diploma in Laboratory Technology, which began in July 2020; and Diploma in Chemical Engineering, which began in January 2021. The other five (5) joint programmes, which consists of Thermal Power Plant Technology, Water Treatment Technology, Chemical Equipment Technology, Power Plant & Power System Technology, and Storage & Transportation Technology will commence in July 2021 for the first intake. All seven (7) programmes are a 3-year programme in which the students will undergo 1 year of academic education at PB, 1 year at LPP, and 1 year of industrial Placement with Hengyi at PMB.

Members of the public and students are welcome to attend the Open Day which will continue on 26th March 2021 from 9AM to 11AM and 2:30PM to 5 PM
