Hengyi Industries Signs Scholarship Agreements with UBD & Jefri Bolkiah students

The Empire Hotel & Country Club 28 February 2015.  Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd today awarded scholarships to fourteen (14) University Brunei Darussalam (UBD) students to further their studies in Zhejiang University, China.

The students having exceled their 1st and 2nd year at University Brunei Darussalam, will proceed to pursue their 3rd  and 1st half of their 4th year in the Joint Process & Chemical Engineering Program at Zhejiang University, China, The company announced today.

 Also concurrently happening during the event was the presentation of COE to the nine (9) Jefri Bolkiah Engineering College students currently on the HTEC Plant Engineering & Operator Scheme under the Energy Industry Competency Framework (EICF) which was instigated by the Energy Division at The Prime Minister’s Office.

Witnessing the signing ceremony on behalf of the Minister of Energy, Prime Ministers Office was Yang Mulia Dato Paduka Hj Jamain bin Hj Julaihi, Permanent Secretary (Downstream & Power) at The Energy Division Prime Minister’s Office.  Signing on behalf of Hengyi was Mr. Chen Lian Cai, Chief Executive Officer of Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd whilst the individual students signed their respective agreement in the presence of parents as guarantors. The signing event took place at The Empire Hotel & Country Club’s Member’s Grill.

Hengyi Industries have established a joint Process & Chemical Engineering Scholarship Programme with UBD and Zhejiang University to sponsor the students to undertake the later part of their academic studies and industrial training at Zhejiang University for a period of one and a half years.  The programme will include placement in a Petrochemical plant in China where the students will gain firsthand experience in a real live operational refinery environment.  Upon completion of the programme, the students will be offered employment at Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd.  This is the second batch of students under the scholarship arrangement with UBD & Zhejiang University.  In 2014 Hengyi Industries sponsored thirteen (13) students under the scholarship agreement for a similar programme at Zhejiang University in China.

The Hengyi refinery and petrochemical project is a collaboration between Damai Holdings Sdn Bhd and Hengyi industries and will entail an investment amount of USD 4 Billion and create 780 direct jobs. The position will be comprised of engineers, technicians, finance and administrative staffs, with the target of recruiting local talents as the first choice for these positions.
