26 Students under the Hengyi Industries - IBTE Joint Scholarship Programme set to continue their studies at Lanzhou Petrochemical University

Brunei International Airport, 29 August 2023 – 26 scholarship students are flying off to Lanzhou Petrochemical University of Vocational Technology (Lanzhou) in the People’sRepublic of China this Tuesday as part of their studies under the Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd (Hengyi Industries) and Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Joint Scholarship Programme.

Originally scheduled to commence their studies at Lanzhou early this year, it was momentarily deferred due to the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The students instead engaged in a period of online class with Lanzhou, ensuring that their academic pursuits remained uninterrupted.

Excited about the new opportunities ahead, Shaiful Amiruddin Bin Rasid, one of the IBTE scholarship recipient shared, “I believe that studying abroad is such a great chance for me to experience new things and culture. It's also certainly a big opportunity for us to hone our career-specific skills, by making use of the facilities they have over at Lanzhou.”

Siti Nadhirah binti Haji Norman, another scholarship recipient, offered her perceptive on the upcoming journey. She remarked that, “It's quite exciting and challenging at the same time because we will be away from our parents. But, it's a great opportunity to be independent and to improve our social communication.”

The Hengyi Industries and IBTE Joint Scholarship Programme offers the recipients a three-year diploma in Refinery Operator, in which they will undergo one year of academic study at IBTE Jefri Bolkiah Campus, followed by one year of studies abroad at Lanzhou. In the final year, they will then undergo on-the-job training with Hengyi Industries at Pulau Muara Besar. Upon completion and graduation of the programme, the students will be offered employment opportunities to join Hengyi Industries and begin their career in the petrochemical industry.
