5th Batch of UBD Scholars Graduate from Zhejiang University & Presentation of Collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings to UBD

The Empire Hotel and Country Club, 10 July 2019.  A graduation ceremony for the fifth batch of 11 scholarship students under the joint Chemical and Process Engineering Scholarship Programme of Hengyi Industries was held at Indera Kayangan Ballroom on Wednesday, 10th July 2019.

The ceremony was witnessed by the guest of honour, Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education. Also in attendance were Her Excellency Yu Hong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam.

The ceremony began with welcoming remarks by Mr Chen Lian Cai, Chief Executive Officer of Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd and was followed by speeches from Professor Luo Weidong, the Vice President of Zhejiang University and Professor Shen Wenhua, the Chair of the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering. The event was later followed by the distribution of certificates to the students.

In conjunction with the joint Chemical and Process Engineering graduation ceremony, a collection of ancient Chinese paintings was presented to Universiti Brunei Darussalam by Mr Chen Lian Cai, on behalf of Zhejiang Hengyi Group. These ancient paintings were sponsored by Hengyi Group and the collection was produced by Zhejiang University. This comprehensive collection is jointly compiled and published by Zhejiang University and the Cultural Heritage Bureau of Zhejiang Province, and is the first large national publishing project that focuses on traditional Chinese paintings on paper and silk from the pre-Qin period to the Qing Dynasty. A partial collection was handed over during the ceremony, while the rest of the collection will soon be delivered to Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

The ceremony successfully concluded with a speech by Dayang Syahiirah Binti Awang Haji Abdul Wahab, a representative from the fifth batch of Hengyi scholars.

The graduating scholarship students have recently accomplished 18 months of chemical and process engineering studies at Zhejiang University which included an industrial training at Hengyi Industries’ petrochemical plant in China. Following their graduation from Zhejiang University, the students will then further accomplish their final semester at Universiti Brunei Darussalam and 6 months of internship at Hengyi Industries. Once they have completed the programme, they will then be offered a position at Hengyi Industries.

With the success of the joint Chemical and Process Engineering Scholarship Programme between Zhejiang Hengyi Group Co. Ltd, Zhejiang University and Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Hengyi Industries has announced that the scholarship programme has been extended for a further five years.
