Hengyi Industries Awards 30 Scholarships to UBD Students and Ink a Memorandum of Understanding with IBTE

The Empire Hotel, 20 February 2023 –  Hengyi Industries Sendirian Berhad (Hengyi Industries) awarded scholarship to 30 students from University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) at The Indera Kayangan Ballroom of The Empire Brunei, Jerudong.

The scholarship signing ceremony was witnessed by the Guest of Honour, Dr Haji Azman Bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education. Also in attendance were His Excellency Wang Hai Tao, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of China in Brunei Darussalam; Dr Hazri Bin Haji Kifle, Vice Chancellor of UBD; and Dr. Hj. Mohd. Zamri Bin Sabli, Chief Executive Officer of IBTE.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, which was followed by a welcoming speech from Mr. Chen Lian Cai, Hengyi Industries’ Chief Executive Officer. During the scholarship signing ceremony, Dr. Haji Azman Bin Ahmad, Dr Hazri Bin Haji Kifle, and Mr. Chen Lian Cai witnessed the UBD students signing the scholarship agreement. This marked the tenth batch of UBD students to receive the scholarship under the Joint Chemical and Process Engineering Scholarship Programme established by Hengyi Industries with UBD and Zhejiang University, bringing the total of awarded scholarship to 167. Since the inception of the scholarship programme, 91 students have completed their studies and joined Hengyi Industries’ pool of professional workforce.

During the event, Hengyi Industries also inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) for the joint collaboration programme established in July 2021. Signing on behalf of Hengyi Industries was Mr. Chen Lian Cai, Hengyi Industries’ Chief Executive Officer, and IBTE was represented by Dr. Hj. Mohd. Zamri Bin Hj. Sabli, Chief Executive Officer of IBTE. The Guest of Honour Dr Haji Azman Bin Ahmad was also present to witness the MoU signing.

Under the joint collaboration programme, Hengyi Industries and IBTE offered the Diploma in Control and Automation in Engineering programme for the students of IBTE. The diploma is a three-year course in which the students will have to undergo two years of academic education with IBTE and Lanzhou Petrochemical University of Vocational Technology (LPUVT) and one year on-job-training with Hengyi Industries. As part of the MoU, students will be provided a conditional employment offer under this programme where they will have an opportunity to work with Hengyi Industries upon their graduation.
