Hengyi Industries Awards Scholarship and CoE to UBD, PB and IBTE Students

Hua Ho Manggis Mall Ballroom, 15 February 2024 – Hengyi Industries Sendirian Berhad (Hengyi Industries) held a Scholarship Signing Ceremony with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), and a Conditional Offer of Employment (CoE) Signing Ceremony with Politeknik Brunei (PB) and Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), demonstrating the company’s commitment to develop Bruneians in the skills relevant to the petrochemical industry.

Present as the Guest of Honour was Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Farida binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib, Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office. Also present was His Excellency Dr. Xiao Jianguo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam.

The event commenced with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by the opening remarks from Yang Mulia Mr. Chen Lian Cai, the Chief Executive Officer of Hengyi Industries. During the scholarship signing ceremony, 20 students from UBD signed the agreement with Yang Mulia Dr. Hazri bin Haji Kifle, Vice Chancellor of UBD, as the witness. The students represent the 11th batch to receive scholarships under the Joint Chemical and Process Engineering Scholarship Programme, a collaborative effort between Hengyi Industries, UBD and Zhejiang University (ZJU). This brings the total number of 187 scholarships awarded to students. As part of the scholarship, the students will undergo four (4) years of study, comprised of two (2) years of academic studies with UBD, one and a half (1.5) years of academic studies with ZJU, and a six (6) months internship with Hengyi Industries.

The event continued with the presentation of CoE to the 2022 intake of students from PB and IBTE under the joint collaboration programmes. 145 students from PB and 35 students from IBTE received the CoE witnessed by, Yang Mulia Mr. Lim Kian Boon, Acting Director of PB, and Yang Mulia Dr. Haji Mohd Zamri bin Haji Sabli, CEO of IBTE.

These joint collaboration programs, created in partnership with Hengyi Industries, PB, IBTE, and Lanzhou Petrochemical University of Vocational Technology (LPUVT), offer various programmes to PB and IBTE students. The programmes consist of three-year courses in which students will undergo two (2) years of studies at the respective institutions, and a year of industrial-based learning/on-job-training with Hengyi Industries at Pulau Muara Besar. Since the establishment of the joint collaboration programmes, a total of 473 CoE has been awarded to the students of PB and IBTE.

The joint scholarship and collaboration programme is part of Hengyi Future-Ready, an initiative aimed at nurturing the youths of Brunei Darussalam into highly skilled individuals, bringing the nation closer to the achievement of Wawasan Brunei 2035. As part of the initiative, Hengyi Industries will also offer the students under the programme the opportunity for full-time employment at Hengyi Industries upon successful completion of their studies.
