PMB Development Steering Committee visits Hengyi

The Pulau Muara Besar (PMB) Development Steering Committee and Working Committees visited the Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Plant at Pulau Muara Besar and Single Point Mooring System on 24th August 2019.

The visit was led by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Md. Hussein, Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Ir. Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Minister of Development, in their capacities as the Co- Chairmen of the Pulau Muara Besar (PMB) Development Steering Committee.

Other Committee members present were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications and Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry.

Also in attendance were members of the PMB Refinery and Petrochemical Project Investment Review Committee, Technical Working Committee, Security Working Committee and Welfare Working Committee.

The focus of the visit was for the PMB Development Steering Committee to witness first-hand the progress of the Pulau Muara Besar Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Plant project. Upon arrival at the Serasa Ferry Terminal, PMB Development Steering Committee and Working Committee members were welcomed by Mr. Chen Lian Cai, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hengyi Industries Sdn. Bhd and followed by the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a safety briefing.

The delegation proceeded with a boat tour to view the Single-Point Mooring System (SPM), Pelumpong Spit, Eastern and Western Jetties. It was later followed by a tour to the Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Plant at Pulau Muara Besar to take a closer look on the progress of the project. After touring the plant, the steering and working committees were invited to visit the Central Control Room and main Fire Station. During the visit to the main Fire Station, the committee met and greeted the firefighters and had the opportunity to inspect the facilities and equipment in ensuring its preparedness during a fire emergency.
 
There are currently 409 local workers directly employed under Hengyi Industries Sdn. Bhd, with 50 percent of the total workforce earmarked for Bruneians once operations begin.

Hengyi Industries Sdn. Bhd is currently focusing on completing their construction activities and is in the midst of commissioning activities. The project targets to complete commissioning by Q4 2019.
